Position Purpose: Serves as Assistant State Librarian, working with the State Librarian in executive, administrative, and management processes; provides administrative and technical direction to Access Services, including the Braille and Talking Book team, the Circulation/ILL team, and the Technical Services team; develops and presents professional development programs; works with diverse groups of people including library staff, trustees, and local governmental officials; encourages cooperative library practices; participates in the development and interpretation of statewide policy; oversees program budget; develops and maintains affiliations with state, regional, and national groups and organizations for the promotion of libraries; and supervises a team of library professionals.
In addition, this position works with and becomes active in diverse groups and organizations working in the field of blindness; serves as the liaison between educators, visually impaired students, and alternative format textbook production programs ensuring that K-12 students receive needed educational materials in the correct format; and serves as an Ex-Officio Trustee to the American Printing House for the Blind and as a member of the SD School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Advisory Council. |
