UNION COUNTY WOMAN SENTENCED IN LANDFILL BABY CASE 

PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Larry Long said today that Lori A. Schultz, 21, Alcester, was sentenced today in Second Circuit Court for one count of second-degree manslaughter. Schultz received ten years in the state penitentiary.

Schultz pled guilty in a Union County court to second-degree manslaughter in January. Schultz admitted to putting her newborn baby in the trash that ended up in a Nebraska landfill. The baby’s body was found on April 5, 2004. 

This case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy Mark Barnett; Assistant Attorney General Patty DeVaney; and Union County States Attorney Jerry Miller. The Union County Sheriff’s Office and the DCI investigated the matter.

Long expressed his gratitude for the long hours put in by the Union County Grand Jury, in its investigation of Ms. Schultz and the death of her baby boy.
