Discussion Forums | Public Records Laws A task force was created by Attorney General Marty J. Jackley in 2001 to study open meetings and public records issues. The group is comprised of over 35 persons representing state and local governmental entities, the media, and the business community. The goal of the group is to examine existing state public record and open meeting laws, identify problems with those laws or their enforcement, and develop resolutions to those issues. The group sucessfully pursued three pieces of legislation in 2004, including the creation of the Open Meetings Commission. After a Hiatus of serveral months, the task force has been convened again, specifically to address public records issues. The group expects to develop legislation for South Dakota's 2008 legislature. |
