CAPITOL BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION POLICY ON DONATIONS

Effective May 13, 1988

CASH DONATIONS

That the Capitol Beautification and Restoration Commission will accept cash donations, which will be placed in a special account by the Bureau of Administration. The funds deposited in the special account will be used for restoration or improvements in the State Capitol Building or capitol grounds as deemed appropriate by the Commissioner of Administration and approved by the Commission.

GIFT DONATIONS

That the Capitol Beautification and Restoration Commission may accept gifts for the restoration or improvements of the State Capitol Building or grounds.

The décor of gifts which are accepted for the State Capitol Building shall be original, duplicates of original, or fit the architectural period in design.

Gift acceptance and placement must be coordinated with the Commissioner of Administration.

ART DONATIONS

That the Capitol Beautification and Restoration Commission may accept works of art, statues, plaques, or other physical additions for placement in the State Capitol Building or capitol grounds.

Objects as described may be placed on display for one year in the State Capitol Building or capitol grounds in areas designated by the Commission. After the display period, the Commissioner of Administration will turn the objects over to the appropriate state agency for disposition.

The Commission, in coordination with the Bureau of Administration, may vote to make the objects a permanent display in the State Capitol Building or capitol grounds.

REFUSAL

That the Capitol Beautification and Restoration Commission may refuse to accept cash, gifts, or art donations which contain covenants which restrict the latitude given to the Commission by South Dakota law.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

That the Capitol Beautification and Restoration Commission issue a Certificate of thanks and purpose to the person or group making a donation.

The Commission may also authorize a plaque or memorial listing the names of individuals or groups making a donation, to be permanently displayed in the Capitol Building.
