Buildings and Grounds is responsible for the maintenance of the buildings and grounds, as well as the remodeling and renovation of existing buildings on the Capitol Complex in Pierre, the Kanner Building in Yankton, and the first floor offices of the Men's Building #1 on the campus of the Michael J. Fitzmaurice Veterans' Home in Hot Springs.

Major construction and remodeling projects in the Pierre Complex, Kanner Building, and Men's Building #1 that are performed by private contractors are also managed by Buildings and Grounds. This effort is performed in cooperation with the State Engineer’s Office.

Buildings and Grounds provides complete building services for the Pierre Capitol Complex, the Kanner Building, and Men's Building #1. Buildings and Grounds consists of five separate sections:

Administration/Building Engineer
Custodial
Grounds
Trades
The Trades section of the Buildings and Grounds Office is composed of five separate sections:
Carpentry
Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC)
Plumbing and Heating
Electrical
System Furniture

Use of Public Property & Office Buildings

Individuals or groups wishing to use facilities located on the Capitol Complex need to submit a Facilities Use Request application form or a Visitor Center application form. The application form and its corresponding brochure (below) are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. To view the document you must have the Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.

The Use of Public Property and Office Buildings brochure provides information regarding events, displays or exhibits on State property or in State office buildings.

NOTE: The individual signing the application form will be held responsible for items outlined in the Requirements section of this brochure.

Planning a wedding? Please complete the Application for Use of Capitol Grounds or Rotunda for Wedding Ceremonies if you are interested in holding your special event on the Capitol grounds. Please note that these weddings are no-frills; many restrictions apply.
