Who is eligible?: An owner of a vehicle who is a resident of this state may apply for personalized vehicle license plates. 

Special Requirements: Personalized plates can consist of no more than seven letters, nor less than one. Spaces or stars should be indicated on the application if desired. The applicant must complete an application form (MV-239) for the special plates. For additional information, please refer to the South Dakota Personalized License Plate Application (MV-239) form.

Plate Fee: The annual fee for a personalized vehicle license plate is $25, plus the regular license plate fee.
