Medicare Prescription Drug Program

Consumer Alert

Anyone with Medicare will be eligible to receive prescription drug coverage through Part D. If you currently have prescription drug coverage, you will need to review your current benefits and the new Part D benefits to determine which coverage best fits your current and future needs.

These plans may only be sold in our state by insurance agents licensed by the South Dakota Division of Insurance.  You may verify that an agent is licensed by contacting our office at 605-773-3563.

For information regarding Medicare Prescription Drug Programs you may refer the Medicare and You 2006 publication which has been mailed to all Medicare recipients by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  They can be reached at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-2273).

To locate a list of the plans available in South Dakota please contact Medicare directly or access the most current information at the CMS website

Enrollment: November 15, 2005 – May 15, 2006. Changes to plan selection or initial enrollment after May 2006 will be each year from November 15 – December 31. The benefits begin January 1, 2006 for those enrolled by the end of 2005 and will begin the month following enrollment for all others.
