Room Rental Information
If you rent rooms in your house for the rally:

When an individual rents a room in their home for 10 or more days per year, the rental is subject to sales tax. The rate is 8.5%, which is 4% state tax, 1.5% tourism tax, and 3% Sturgis municipal tax. If the home is outside city limits, the municipal tax does not apply.

If you rent rooms for more than 10 days per year, you must obtain a temporary license for the Sturgis Rally and pay the appropriate tax.

Rooms rented for 28 consecutive days or more to the same person are exempt from the sales tax.
