Major General Steven R. Doohen, Hartford, S.D., serves as the adjutant general of the South Dakota National Guard and the secretary of the South Dakota Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. He was appointed by Governor Rounds and began on September 17, 2007.
Gen. Doohen brings many years of experience and expertise, having served as a pilot and wing commander for the South Dakota Air National Guard, along with distinguished leadership roles during his 36-year military career.
Gen. Doohen was chosen to serve as the assistant adjutant general for Air for the state of South Dakota in March 2006. He has continued to serve his state by providing oversight of the operational readiness of the South Dakota Air National Guard. He has served in the Air National Guard since January 1971.
Doohen is a graduate of the University of Sioux Falls, with a Bachelors of Arts. He is also a graduate of the Air War College in Montgomery, Ala.
Doohen and his wife, Gloria, currently reside in Hartford.
