Bernard Wayne Jennings was born December 16, 1916, at Wakonda, Clay County,
South Dakota. Before he entered the service, Bernard worked at Wakonda. Bernard
entered the service on January 23, 1942, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and served
as a Private, Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th
Infantry Division. He was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama, and had been in the
service for eighteen months when he came home to Davis on a ten-day leave.
On April 18, 1943, while driving home from Wakonda with some friends, Bernard
Jennings was involved in an auto accident near Centerville. He was killed when
the car went into a ditch. The other men escaped with minor injuries.
Bernard Jennings was 29 years old at the time of his death.
