Spearfish Couple Claims $200,000 Powerball Prize

(Pierre) – Edgar and Aileen Burr of Spearfish today claimed the $200,000 Powerball prize they won in the Saturday, June 20th drawing.

Edgar said he recognized the numbers while watching the news Sunday night. While he realized he was a winner, he wasn’t sure where he’d put the ticket. "I had to hunt around a little for the ticket," he said.

After finding the ticket in the car’s glove compartment, Edgar gave the ticket to his wife Aileen as an early present for her birthday next week. "She was so excited she started jumping up and down," he said.

The couple operates an assisted care facility in Spearfish and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Edgar said they’re "looking forward to paying off bills, doing some golfing and having a good time" with their prize.

The winning ticket was sold at the Valley Corner grocery store in Spearfish. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the lucky "quick pick" ticket.

The estimated jackpot for the next drawing on Wednesday, June 24 is $20,000,000. Powerball is played in 30 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1:195,249,054.
