Edmunds County Fatal Crash
What: Two vehicle fatal crash
When: Friday, July 24, 2009 at approximately 1745 hours
Where: US 12 mp 237 or 4 miles east of Bowdle
Driver #1: Ann J Veitz, 31, McLaughlin, SD
Fatal
Vehicle #1: 2003 Chevy Blazer
Driver #2: Ikea J. Pfeifle, 25, Watertown, SD
No injuries
Passenger: Michael J Gruenwald, 27, Watertown, SD
No injuries
Vehicle #2: 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix
Description: Both vehicles were westbound on US Hwy 12. Vehicle 2 had pulled out in an attempt to pass vehicle 1. The vehicles came in contact with each other, causing the driver of vehicle 1 to lose control. Vehicle 1 rolled across the roadway and into the south ditch. The driver of vehicle 2 was able to bring her vehicle to a stop on the roadway. The driver of vehicle 1 died at the scene as a result of her injuries.
Alcohol is not a factor. Safety belts were worn by all parties.
The investigation continues.
