One vehicle fatal crash
What: One-vehicle fatal crash near Pennington County and Meade County line
When: Monday Nov. 9, 2009, 3:30 a.m.
Where: Haines Avenue, one-half mile north of intersection with Viking Drive.
Driver 1: Kyle Wade Maldacker, 23 Rapid City, fatal
Passenger: Taccara Jo Leclaire, 20, Rapid City, serious injuries.
Vehicle 1: 2002 Chevrolet Malibu.
RAPID CITY – An early morning crash near the Pennington County-Meade County line killed a 23-year-old Rapid City man and seriously injured a 20-year-old passenger.
Kyle Wade Maldacker was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu south on Haines Avenue when the vehicle crossed the center line, entered a ditch and struck a large tree. Maldacker was thrown from the vehicle and died.
Taccara Jo Leclaire, also of Rapid City, was a front-seat passenger. She was wearing a seat belt. Leclaire was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believe alcohol was involved in the crash. The investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing.
