Tuesday, November 24, Pierre, 7 p.m. (CST) – The Christmas at the Capitol 2009 Grand Lighting Ceremony will take place in the Capitol rotunda. The large South Dakota tree is decorated by the South Dakota Florists Association. It is a 45-foot Black Hills spruce from Camp Rapid, Rapid City, and was donated by the South Dakota National Guard. The lighting ceremony will feature a welcome from Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill, musical performances, and Christmas wishes from Governor and Jean Rounds. Pre-event music begins at 6 p.m. After the ceremony, kids of all ages can get their picture taken with Santa Claus in front of the South Dakota Tree, and refreshments, provided by Lynn’s Dakotamart, will be served on the first floor of the Capitol.
