Gov. Rounds re-appoints Jewett to Board of Regents

PIERRES.D. - Gov. Mike Rounds has re-appointed Harvey Jewett to the South Dakota Board of Regents.

"Harvey brings considerable experience to this position," Gov. Rounds said. "Since his initial appointment in 1997, he has been through one of the most dynamic periods of growth and reinvention that the Regents have ever seen. He has been a leader in promoting the use of federal and outside sources instead of using taxpayer funds."

Mr. Jewett was first elected President of the S.D. Board of Regents in March of 1999.   The South Dakota Board of Regents is the constitutional governing board for South Dakota's six public universities and two special schools.

Mr. Jewett is currently one of the three owners of The Rivett Group, L.L.C., and serves as its President and Chief Operating Officer.  The Rivett Group, L.L.C., is a franchisee of Super 8 Motels, Inc., and constructs, owns and operates motels throughout the United States and Canada.  Mr. Jewett is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jewett Drug Co., Inc., of Aberdeen and a partner in the Aberdeen law firm of Siegel, Barnett & Schutz.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, University of South Dakota FoundationSouth Dakota Law School Foundation, Catholic Foundation for Eastern South Dakota, President of the South Dakota Board of Regents, and serves on the Boards of several other business and educational entities and foundations.

Mr. Jewett graduated from the University of South Dakota, received his law degree from USD in 1973, and was editor-in-chief of the South Dakota Law Review.  Harvey and his wife, Cynthia, reside in Aberdeen and have four grown children.

Jewett's began serving on the Board of Regents January 24, 1997
